Vivek Ramaswamy, a 2024 presidential candidate in the United States, has announced his acceptance of Bitcoin for campaign donations, becoming the second candidate to do so. During his appearance at Bitcoin 2023 in Miami, Ramaswamy emphasized his desire to make the upcoming election a referendum on fiat currency. He encouraged supporters to give even a small amount of $1 in Bitcoin.
To facilitate donations, Ramaswamy displayed a QR code that directed users to a payment gateway supporting various payment options, including BTC and satoshis. The campaign has partnered with BitPay to handle Bitcoin donations, while also accepting other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Cash, Ether, and Litecoin. Donors will receive a nonfungible token (NFT) as a token of appreciation. It’s important to note that there are limits to the amount individuals can donate, and any crypto donations below $100 must be immediately converted to USD and cannot be used for expenditures or held as an investment.
