Sports Illustrated’s subsidiary, SI Tickets, has launched a new platform called “Box Office” which utilizes the Polygon blockchain to provide event organizers with a self-service ticketing solution. The platform allows organizers to create and manage paid or free ticketed live sporting events, and also offers a new “Super Ticket” that allows attendees to access exclusive perks via NFT technology. These perks include pre-event and post-event rewards such as expedited entry passes, drink coupons, and music downloads. The new website informs event organizers that attendees can keep their digital tickets forever in their digital wallet.
The platform, launched in partnership with Web3 software developer ConsenSys, charges $1.40 and 3% commission per ticket, along with 3% merchant pass-through fees for event organizers. SI Tickets CEO David Lane stated that blockchain is the future of ticketing and the company has been preparing to disrupt the primary ticket market since the launch of its global event marketplace in 2021.
