The House Financial Services Committee, chaired by Representative Patrick McHenry, has announced a series of joint hearings in May to address the market structure surrounding digital assets in the United States. McHenry spoke at the Consensus 2023 event, stating that the hearings will provide a holistic view for a House committee hearing around the regulation and market structure around digital assets. The hearings aim to establish a bill providing regulatory clarity to the crypto sector, building on a bipartisan bill led by Senator Cynthia Lummis and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. The Responsible Financial Innovation Act, also known as the Lummis-Gillibrand bill, addresses SEC and CFTC jurisdiction, stablecoin regulation, and crypto taxation. The revised bill is expected to be released soon, with a stronger focus on cybercrime aspects and certain registration requirements.
