MeWe, a social network that claims to offer better privacy protection than Facebook, is set to integrate with Frequency, a Polkadot parachain, through the Decentralized Social Networking Protocol (DSNP) developed by Project Liberty. MeWe will move its 20 million users’ accounts to the blockchain network during Q2 2023. The move is expected to provide a permanent commitment to data ownership for users. MeWe CEO Jeffrey Edell said blockchain technology would allow the network to fulfil privacy promises that could be lost if the company was acquired.
Braxton Woodham, president of Amplica Labs, which was the initial technical contributor to Frequency, said the partnership would provide a framework for developers to build upon to solve problems in social media.
