Sam Bankman-Fried, the co-founder of FTX, has been subjected to stringent bail conditions due to his alleged involvement in attempted witness tampering. As part of his bail conditions, surveillance software has been installed on his parents’ mobile phones to track all their activity, including browsing history, messaging, and calls. The software will also monitor the installation of unauthorized applications. To ensure that Bankman-Fried’s bail conditions are not violated, a technical consultant will review the keystroke logs and screenshots from the mobile devices at least three times a week.
The measures were approved by U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan on 24 April, amid concerns about Bankman-Fried’s access to electronic devices. The implementation of the surveillance software on his parents’ mobile phones is an unprecedented move, indicating the severity of the charges against him.
