The legal team of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has requested an extension on the enforcement of his bail conditions due to difficulties in installing monitoring software on his parents’ cell phones. The software must capture a photo of the user every five minutes, but the new phones purchased for Bankman-Fried’s parents cannot automatically do so as required. The legal team is optimistic about finding a solution but needs more time to conduct further tests on the monitoring software’s capabilities. While they search for a resolution, Bankman-Fried’s parents will be allowed to continue using their existing cellphones.
The latest iPhones, for instance, cannot have monitoring software installed without jailbreaking the device first. There have been concerns raised over Bankman-Fried’s access to cell phones, and the judge previously proposed that he be prohibited from using smartphones, tablets, computers, and any video game platforms or devices that allow chat and voice communication.
