The US House Committee on Financial Services will hold a hearing on stablecoins as a means of payment and whether legislation is needed to support the ecosystem. The hearing, titled “Understanding Stablecoins’ Role in Payments and the Need for Legislation,” will include information gathered by various federal government agencies over the last year. Testifying at the hearing will be Circle’s Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Policy, Dante Disparte, among others.
The hearing will examine various stablecoins and their use in the payments landscape and explore the need for stablecoin legislation based on their underlying collateral structures. A draft bill providing a framework for stablecoins in the US was published in the House of Representatives document repository just days before the hearing.
