According to a Bloomberg report on April 10, Vishal Gupta is leaving his role as head of exchange at Coinbase after more than two years at the cryptocurrency exchange. Gupta plans to stay in the crypto industry and is considering starting a new project focused on blockchain or digital assets. Prior to joining Coinbase in September 2020, Gupta served as the head of USD Coin at Circle and as a vice president at Goldman Sachs.
Gupta’s departure comes amidst regulatory and legal scrutiny at Coinbase, including a Wells notice from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and involvement in a lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control. As of publication, there have been no updates on Gupta’s LinkedIn page or Twitter profile regarding his employment status at Coinbase, and Coinbase has not responded to inquiries about Gupta.
