Opening a Coinbase Account
Getting started with Coinbase Invest, trade, store and do more with supported cryptocurrencies on Coinbase by following these steps:
Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old and provide proof of age
- Have a government-issued photo ID (not a passport card)
- A computer or smartphone with internet access
- A phone number connected to your smartphone for SMS text messages
- The latest version of your browser (Chrome is recommended) or the latest Coinbase App version. If you’re using the Coinbase app, make sure your phone’s operating system is up-to-date.
Creating your Coinbase account:
- Go to Coinbase.com or download the Coinbase app on your smartphone
- Click or tap “Get started”
- Provide the following information accurately:
- Legal full name (proof will be required)
- Email address (make sure it’s accessible)
- Password (memorize it)
- State (proof will be required)
- Read the User Agreement and Privacy Policy, check the box if you agree, and create your account.
- Verify your email address by clicking the link in the verification email sent to you by Coinbase.
- Verify your phone number by following the steps provided in the app or on the website.
- Add your personal information including:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Date of Birth
- Address
- Occupation
- Employer
- Last 4 digits of SSN
- Verify your identity by signing in to your Coinbase account and completing ID verification.
- Link a Payment Method.
Note: To buy and sell crypto and send/receive through Coinbase.com, you need to verify your identity and add a bank account. Setting up 2-step verification is recommended for added security.
